IDEAS

Break up your revision with ideas from other teachers, documentaries, websites and quizzes

Get the big picture/ see it from a new angle

The History Giants - here to help you…

If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.

  1. John D Clare

This man has got it (almost - no Events in the Gulf) all!

  1. Go to http://johndclare.net/RevisionMaterials.htm

there are

  • ‘cheat sheets’

  • basic notes

  • quick self tests

  • A* extras etc

(but make your own revision diary - our topics don’t match his)

2. Or go to http://johndclare.net/

This is more detailed info with each topic (called slightly different things, e.g. collapse of peace = road to war)

You need this bit

This is a link to the Word copies of his booklets - remember you don’t need all of these - and some I have already given to you.

http://www.johndclare.net/word_copies_of_booklets.htm

2. Scott Allsop

This man is the only one with ‘1.7 Events in the Gulf’

  1. Learn the Billy Joel song and be able to explain it - there is even help to write your own to make it all about what you need to learn (see the syllable grid )

http://www.mrallsophistory.com/revision/we-didnt-start-the-fire.html

2. More importantly (maybe), learn the ‘Events in the Gulf’ stuff.

You can listen to the podcast or download the transcript to read.

Make sure you make notes and learn them.

  1. The Rise of Saddam Hussein

  2. Saddam Hussein’s Rule of Iraq

  3. Why was there a revolution in Iran in 1979?

  4. The overthrow of the Shah in the Iranian Revolution, 1979

  5. Causes and Consequences of the Iran-Iraq War, 1980-88

  6. Origins of the First Gulf War

  7. The start of Operation Desert Storm and the First Gulf War

At the bottom of the webpage above is his help for answering the source questions on paper 2. Remember your topic for the Source Paper is ‘1.7 Events in the Gulf’. Try...

3. Mr Hinds

The details man

  1. Go to his homepage http://www.mrhindshistory.com/1-peace-treaties.html this has the index of all our topics (apart from the gulf) (again collapse of peace = road to war). Use his notes pages - they tend to be good overviews broken down.

  2. Use his videos for details - if you’re stuck - find a video on it. But I think he has all his lessons on here and at this stage you don’t need all the background to learn. So be selective and this is an excellent resource.

  1. He has zondle quizzes for his topics - use these! Make sure you are making notes and learning them by testing yourself!

4. Bitesize

‘Revise - then - Test’ - perfect!  (the videos here don’t seem to work!)

Crash Course

Has written stuff for mostly everything and is the fastest talker in the world.

Don’t try and write everything down, especially not the first time. Watch for extra details - search for our topics e.g.
